First Unitarian Universalist Church is a mid-sized congregation of over 400 members and 160 children and youth.
The Welcoming Congregation Program was created for Unitarian Universalist congregations that saw the need to become more inclusive of bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender people. The program consists of a series of workshops developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). The goal of the workshops is to reduce prejudice by increasing understanding and acceptance among people of different sexual orientation and sexual identity.
In 2001 the Rochester congregation held a series of workshops based on the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) material and received certification from the UUA as a Welcoming Congregation.
Becoming part of a church community can feel uncertain and awkward. The Pathway to Membership class is designed to bring visitors and guests into our congregation and reduce the feeling of being new as they become members of the congregation. It is designed to enable folks to become actively and meaningfully involved in the life of the church and congregation
We want to make sure every visitor feels welcomed and comfortable. You will not be pressured or given a "sales pitch." Please visit our guest table and meet with our friendly greeters.
There are several ways to do this, and all can be initiated at the Guest Table in the lobby. While completing the Guest sheet at the table, you may request our newsletter, the Venture, be sent to you via postal or e-mail. You may also request a weekly e-mail of church fellowship activities
