What is the Interfaith Build?

The Interfaith Build has been an opportunity for faith communities to join together for the common purpose of building a simple, decent, affordable home partnering with a family in need. Participating faith communities educated their members about housing needs for low income families, raised money, shared food & provided volunteer labor to build a house along side the selected family.

What are the benefits to the faith community?

This Interfaith project had a mission to build harmony and understanding among different faith communities. In a world where our differences often tear us apart, the goal was to concentrate on our similarities & create something truly special. This local service opportunity called people to reach out to the community and put their faith into action. Our UU  social justice efforts were certainly revitalized, as members came together for meetings with other faith communities (Mosque to Synagogue and more), opportunities to meet the family, sharing ethnic food, fund raising and hands-on building in fellowship.

Who will live in this home?

A Somali family (Guled and Saido, 7 children ages 2 - 18 and Saido's mother) are very excited for their home to be finished. Guled works at IBM in manufacturing.  When Habitat discussed the Interfaith build with him, he shared that he leads an assembly line group at IBM that includes Somalis, Cambodians, Sudanese, Eastern Europeans, Hispanics as well as Caucasians - so he "lives" interfaith in a way every work day.  The family adults have been actively involved in the completion of their home.

CONSTRUCTION & HOSPITALITY DATES FOR UUS and the other FAITH COMMUNITIES ARE OFFICIALLY FINISHED ! ! !

1.  How much $$$ did we raise?  $6,688.26   Our UU goal was $5,000.00 - RAHH writes, "AWESOME JOB!  You've done a great job of fundraising.  Thanks for all your hard work and support."

2.  How did Share the Plate on April 17, 2011 tie into the Interfaith build?  Over $835.00 was collected in support of Colin Maraganore's Eagle Scout Project-sustainable landscape for the Interfaith home.  (Colin is sharing his plans between services on May 8 and 15).

3.  How many UUs have contributed time and money to this build?  The number is phenomenal !  This project generated outstanding UU involvement in an Interfaith Social Justice project.   THANK U - one and all !
