Members, Friends and Guests ...

Hello again! Welcome!

This page is is the entryway to a workspace and common area shared by an on-line community of members, friends and guests of First Unitarian Universalist Church.

You are invited to help make this on-line space an extension, an expansion, of the in-life space we share on Walden Lane.

Please create an account if you are a member or friend, would like to visit as a registered guest or if you just want a subscription for e-mail notifications. Whether you create an account or not, you are welcome here, we're glad you're here and we will be glad to greet you in person on Walden Lane next Sunday!

Before you create an account, please take a moment to become familiar with the process and to prepare:

  • Choose a Username you will respond to in person. For example, if your name is Jean Dough, then Jean Dough would be a good choice for Username. This isn't a requirement, but it will help keep this space and our shared experience here connected to and a part of our life together on Walden Lane.  Also, it's easy to remember your name.
  • Choose a password you will remember, but its best if you don't make it trivial or too easy to guess.  The new account page will rate the strength of your password and show you warnings if you give it a password it doesn't like. So, be prepared. It likes passwords that combine several lower-case and upper-case letters, special case characters and numbers. It doesn't like really short passwords or repetition.
    • Here's one way to make up passwords that the checker likes:
      • Come up with a few lines that contain at least one number, or word that sounds like a number, and at least one special character:
        • Snow falls long soft
        • Six days, seven nights!
        • Cold hard frog waits
      • Take the first letter of each word, retain capitalization and punctuation, use the digits rather than the word numbers: Sfls6d7n!Chfw
    • Here's another:
      • Come up with a brief exclamation: Good Grief!
      • Use the exclamation as is, except: capitalize all the words, run the words together and substitute digits for letters that look like digits or sound like numbers: G00dGr1ef!
    • Finally, remember this. You are in charge. Its just a machine. Even if it complains with low strength ratings and warnings, it will accept almost any password you give it if you are firm and consistent. For example, it will accept 'boo' as a password if that's really what you want. You have to type in the same password in the password field and in the password confirmation field.
  • Decide which e-mail address you want to use with this account. If you only have one e-mail address, that's an easy decision. If you have multiple e-mail addresses, or don't use your e-mail very often it may be a little harder to decide, and its very easy to forget. If you share an e-mail address with someone you will have to share this account too, or one of you will have to get another e-mail address. The system won't let you request an account with an e-mail address that is already being used.
  • Make a note of  the username, password and e-mail address you want to use with this account. Keep it on hand as you go through the process and update it if you change your mind as you go along. When you're all done and successfully signed in with your new account, don't shred the note, file it away in a safe place where you can find it if you forget.

Here's what happens when you create an account:

  1. You fill out an on-line form with username, e-maill address, and other information that lets us identify you and determine whether your account should be set up as a member, friend, interested visitor or newsletter notice subscriber.
  2. You receive an e-mail, at the e-mail address you used when filling out the form, confirming that your request is being processed. Our administrator will also receive an e-mail about your request, and sign on to approve your account.
  3. You receive another e-mail saying your account is ready and inviting you to click on a link or copy and paste a URL to sign-on and set your password. You have 24 hours from the time your request was approved to follow that link and set your password.
  4. You click on the link and follow the instructions to set the password you made up earlier.

To sign on afterward, you come back to this page. Over on the left side of the page you type in your username and password and click Log-in. When you sign in, you see different content on this page and in the menu at the top of the page.

Ready?
